June shipment of vintage furniture has arrived

Hello, this is Fukuda from Greenwich Daikanyama.
We spend our days at the mercy of the weather, with rain and sudden heat waves.
We have received some Nordic vintage furniture this month, so we would like to introduce some of our products.

Introducing Nordic vintage furniture!

Peter hvidt & Orla Molgaard Nielsen Portex Chair R212D653D

This chair was designed by Peter Witz and Orla Målgaard Nielsen, who are also famous for the AX CHAIR.

This chair was designed by Peter Witz and Orla Målgaard Nielsen (hereafter referred to as Peter Witz) who had just started their own firm at the time, for Portex, as the name of the chair suggests. I don't know the context, but it seems to have been produced by FRITZ HANSEN.

He also incorporated the latest technology into his designs, such as molded plywood, which was being used by the Eames and others at the time. In Danish design, molded plywood is well known for its use in the Ant Chair, but considering that Peter Witz had commercialized it before that, it is amazing how he made such a great contribution to making molded plywood a common product.

Another feature of the Portex chair is that it looks elegant when stacked. There are various theories about this, but it is said to be the first stackable chair in Denmark.

Peter Witz is a designer who actively uses innovative technology to create products that are not eccentric but fit into everyday life. The link molding seen in the AX CHAIR was a structure that was not seen in the Danish furniture design world at the time, but it was successfully incorporated into the iconic design of the AX CHAIR.

*By the way, link-insertion molding is a manufacturing technique that combines solid wood and molded plywood. This technique seems to have also been applied to the production of tennis rackets.

Dining Table R412D280

Next, we will introduce the Anonymous dining table.

Nowadays, it is difficult to use this wood as a product, but the table top is made of rosewood, and the legs are made of luxurious mahogany.

With extension-type tables, the wooden color of the tabletop on the extended part is often dark, which can look strange when in use, but with this table there is not much difference in color and it appears to be in good condition.

In addition to the beauty of the tabletop, the legs are also elaborately crafted. The exquisitely carved R at the bottom of the valance gives it a dignified impression.

*It was made in a workshop that no longer exists.

When you actually use an extension table, you can enjoy meals and other activities in a style that suits you at any given time. Another advantage of an extension table is that it can be used when your life stage changes and you have more children.

Bookcase R412D285

Finally, we would like to introduce another Anonymous book case.

This bookcase is 180cm tall and has excellent storage capacity.

The top shelf is open storage and has many dowel holes so the height can be adjusted precisely to suit your storage and display needs.

The bottom shelf is deep and spacious, so you won't have any trouble storing things. The design of the recessed handle is cute and makes you feel attached to it. The height of the shelves in the lower storage can also be adjusted. This is a bookcase that can be finely tailored to your own lifestyle and hobbies.

This product was also made in a workshop that no longer exists.

As an aside, next to the workshop sticker you can see the words " DANISH FURNITUREMAKERS' CONTROL". This is a sticker that was put on only products that met certain conditions to guarantee the quality of Danish furniture in Denmark as a measure to reassess the value of Danish furniture when the popularity of Danish design temporarily declined after the 1960s, which is said to be the golden age of Danish furniture.

These stickers can sometimes help determine the age of the product, so try looking under chairs and tables to find them.

Next week we will be publishing a blog that looks at how our craftsmen repair vintage furniture, so be sure to check it out!
