Hello, this is Fukuda from Greenwich Daikanyama.
Now, we would like to introduce some of the products that arrived in February's Daikanyama shipment.

Scandinavian vintage furniture now in stock!

Borge Mogensen Bureau model143

R507D401

This is a work by Børge Mogensen, one of Denmark's leading designers. He was the first head of design at FDB Mobler, and even after going independent, he has released many works for manufacturers such as Fredericia . After completing his training as a furniture craftsman, Mogensen studied furniture design at a design school. He then studied under Kaare Klint, known as the "father of modern Danish furniture."

Since he started his training as a furniture craftsman, many of Mogensen's furniture pieces are made with little waste. For this reason, Mogensen's pieces have a minimalist feel. This is my personal opinion, but I feel that it is more difficult to make minimal designs look good than flashy ones.

Shortly after the war, Mogensen noticed that people were increasingly moving from rural areas to cities, and many of them were living in small, cramped apartments.
Until then, there was no space to store large, heavy furniture, dressing tables, dining tables, etc. in small apartments, and many people were in trouble.
Mogensen sarcastically describes these pieces of furniture as "fat butcher's furniture" (!).

Mogensen's philosophy is that furniture should be suitable for everyday life and make effective use of space, and that "if it's not useful, throw it away, and if it's not practical, replace it."
For him, furniture was something that "solved everyday problems", so "simple and practical" furniture became the hallmark of his designs. As these designs became widely adopted in Danish life, they also became the hallmark of Danish furniture itself.

Greenwich carries many classic models, including the J39, so please come and visit us in store.

Poul M.Volther Dining Table "C35" R507D447

Next, we will introduce some works designed by Paul M. Volta for FDB Mobler .

He is the second-generation head of design at FDB Mobler, who designed the J46, which is said to have been owned by one in five Danes (it is said that 850,000 pairs were sold).

While Mogensen and Wegner are well-known in Japan, Volta, who produced FDB Mobler's biggest hit, is also highly regarded, and the J46 is one of the earliest pieces of furniture to be produced when FDB Mobler was relaunched, as it is one of the most familiar to the Danish people.

Paul M. Volta was not a designer who created unique details or unusual shapes, but his work seems to have something in common with FDB Mobler's design philosophy of putting the user first.

With a width of 85cm and a depth of 85cm, it is the perfect size for Japanese families living alone or couples who are starting to live together. When your family grows, the extendable top can be extended up to 64cm, making it a product that can flexibly accommodate changes in lifestyle.

We currently have many vintage dining tables on display at our Daikanyama store. For more information, please see the list of exhibited items at the URL below.
