Introducing the AX chair, a masterpiece that pioneered the Danish design world
Hello, I'm Izuishi, a web store staff member.
Today we will be showcasing some of our newly arrived vintage furniture.
We would like to introduce the AX Chair, co-designed by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard Nielsen.
The AX chair is from Fritz Hansen, a leading Danish furniture manufacturer.
It was sold in 1950.
The manufacturing method, called "molded plywood," in which thinly sliced wood is layered and pressed together with a special tool, was the most advanced technology in Scandinavia at the time.
It brought a breath of fresh air to the Danish furniture industry by making it possible to produce high-quality products quickly.
This technology was later used by the company in Arne Jacobsen's Ant Chair and Seven Chair, making it one of the pioneers of moulded plywood.
The streamlined form unique to plywood,
The contrast created by two types of wood, beech and mahogany,
The AX chair has a wide, sloping seat that is not only beautiful but also so comfortable you wouldn't believe it has a wooden seat.
It became so popular that many variations were created, including armless and leather-covered types.
In 1951, it was exhibited at the Good Design Show at MoMA (Museum of Modern Art, New York).
Its technology and unique design are highly regarded.
Please come and see the AX Chair, which is beautiful from any angle and will make a statement as the centerpiece of your interior, at our online store or Daikanyama store.
