Considering interior design, the benefits of remote work Vol.1

Hello everyone. This is Okada from Greenwich Daikanyama.

Greenwich recently began having staff at its Daikanyama store work remotely.
How is your workplace?

My thoughts after starting remote work: "My life has become a little more fulfilling."

The best part is that it saves me over two hours of commuting time each way.
I can now take my time with my family while eating meals (egg dishes have been added to our usual breakfast).
I can now relax and sit at home and do the reading I used to do in my spare time during my commute (since libraries are closed, I'm making full use of e-books).
I tried doing the housework that I usually do on the weekends little by little in the morning (I realized that cleaning becomes a hassle because it tends to pile up).
I can use my travel time freely. I'm enjoying remote work.

But at the same time, I began to notice even the small inconveniences.
Work in your own private space, your home.
Since this is something that isn't normally anticipated at home, it's only natural that there will be some inconveniences.

So the theme this time is,
"Make remote work more fun with interior design!"

Re-thinking your interior can make remote work more comfortable.
In this series, we will be bringing you tips on how to make remote work more enjoyable, which we have discovered through our work in interior design!

① "The table doesn't feel right..." → Check the table height

The first thing I noticed was that the table didn't fit right.

For those of you who work remotely, where in your home do you work?
I use the dining table, and this was my first bit of stress.

The height of a dining table is generally around 72cm.
The ideal height for computer work is:
It is said that a table that is lower than a dining table, 65 to 70 cm high, is appropriate (although this may differ depending on gender and age).
I see, the height just wasn't right!

So what I would like to suggest is a table with adjustable height.
Here are two recommendations.

greeniche cafe table

A popular Greenwich original product, the cafe table .
You can choose the height from 35 to 72 cm (in 1 cm increments), so you can order it to a height that is comfortable for you to work at and matches your chair or sofa!

You can also choose the size of the tabletop, the material, and the color of the legs.
The simple, timeless design will surely blend in perfectly with your current room.

One of the attractions of cafe tables is their price, which makes it easy to add to your collection.
But cheap doesn't necessarily mean bad.
The tabletop is made of solid wood, so you can enjoy the changes that occur over time (it feels softer and more comfortable in your hand with each use!).

And now, a compact size of the cafe table has been released.
It's called the " Remote Work Table "!
We designed it to be just the right height and size for remote work.

Available in two different heights to suit any work style, whether on a sofa or dining chair.

I plan to actually use this table for remote work from now on!
I will report back on my experience using it so that it can be of use to everyone.

string works height adjustable desk

A height-adjustable desk from Swedish furniture brand "string."
It comes with an electric adjuster so you can adjust the height to your preference between 71.5 and 118.5 cm.

You can freely change the height while using it.
Therefore, its unique appeal is that it can also be used for standing work!

Not only does it look stylish, but it's also highly functional, with cord storage.

With the elimination of the commute due to remote work, I'm sure there are many people who feel they are lacking in exercise (I feel this very strongly, so I set aside 10 minutes every day for strength training).

It seems that spending time working while standing allows you to use your body's muscles, changes your mood, and improves your concentration.
In Sweden, more than 90% of office workers have height-adjustable desks for health reasons!
Another great feature is that you can choose from a variety of sizes and colors to match your current room.

② "Sitting on a chair makes me tired..." → Try paying attention to the seat and back of your chair

The second minor stress I felt was chairs.
When I started using a chair that I normally only used when eating for long periods of time for work, my lower back and buttocks started to hurt, my body became unstable, and it just didn't feel right at all.
I realized that the discomfort was caused by the shape of the seat and backrest.

So, here we'll introduce two chairs that are recommended for sitting for long periods of time!

FDB Möbler J48

You can choose the color of the seat.

The J48 was designed by Danish designer Paul M. Volta.
This chair is packed with Volta's characteristic of "perfectionism in terms of design and functionality."

The reason we recommend this chair is because of its distinctive backrest design.
Not only is it attractive for its unique appearance, but the three top rails are comfortable against the back and provide firm support for the body.
The overall shape is slightly curved, so it fits snugly around your back.
When you get tired while working, just lean your body back and you'll feel a sense of security that you can't get with any other chair!

Her body fits perfectly in the chair (model height: 174cm).

In addition, the seat is covered with fabric so you can sit on it for a long time without feeling any pain. You can choose the color to match your room.
The area is quite large, so it's also recommended for larger men!

CH24 (Y Chair)

The CH24 designed by Hans J. Wegner. This classic chair, also known as the "Y Chair", is actually perfect for desk work!

While doing desk work, I realized, "I need armrests..."
When you want to take a breather after concentrating on your work.
I noticed that having an armrest there helped me relax my shoulders and make my body feel more at ease.

The arms of the Y chair are at an excellent height (slightly high) for resting your elbows.
The arm ends up in a position that makes you think, "Yes, exactly where I needed it!"

Moreover, thanks to the beautiful curve of the armrests and back, it has the capacity to envelop the whole body. It is comfortable even if you turn your body around and sit at an angle. It is wonderful.

And speaking of the Y chair, the paper cord on the seat is something special.
It has the unique feature that it gradually changes shape to fit the shape of the person's bottom each time they sit on it.
As a result, the seat gradually becomes accustomed to your body and you feel as if you are being envelopingly encased in it.

You won't feel tired even after long hours of desk work.
The reason why the Y Chair is loved all over the world is not just its design!

How was it?
Changes in your environment can be stressful, but if you choose something that makes you feel good and embrace it, I think you'll be able to enjoy the change.

Considering interior design tips for remote work.
Please look forward to the next one!
