「ハンス・オルセンの工房で修業した後にThe School of Arts and Craftsを卒業、マイスターの資格を得る。卒業後はThe Danish School of Art and Desigで教師として若手デザイナーの育成に尽力した。
1949年にウェグナーに紹介され、FDBに入社。翌1950年にはモーエンセンが勤めていた企画デザイン担当責任者を引き継ぎ、彼の「家具は人々の生活を向上させる」という信念も同時に引き継ぎ、指針とする。
モーエンセンが家具により行った人々への職や金銭の確保でなく、手に取りやすい機能性とシンプルさ、手軽さを強調した「J46」はFDB最大のヒット商品といわれており、 1950年代のデンマーク家具職人ギルドの展示会では毎年のように出品されていた。
FDBを1956年に退職すると同時にデンマーク国内の応用芸術学校で再び教師となる。彼の指導によりそのシンプルなデザインをベースとして用いるデザイナーは多い。
デザイン・機能面では完璧主義で、流行などの短命な家具を嫌がり、丈夫でシンプルなデザインを多く遺している。 ウインザー家具を源流とする現代スウェーデン風のペグチェアをモデルとし、デンマークの人々の暮らしの質を向上させた。
代表作に『J46』『J48』『コロナチェア』などがある。
