String®

String®は、1949年にスウェーデンの建築家であるNils Strining（ニルス・ストリニング）によってデザインされました。

その誕生のきっかけとなったのが、1949年、スウェーデンの大手出版社ボニエールが主催した収納家具のコンペでした。
「ゆとり（スペース）があれば人々はもっと本を買う」という気づきをもとに、手頃な価格で発送・組み立て・設置が簡単な収納棚をテーマに実施しました。

そのコンペに参加した、ニルス・ストリニングと妻のカイサ・ストリニングは、独創的な発想で最優秀賞を受賞。
それは壁に取り付けられ、柔軟性に優れ、かつ軽やかでミニマムな収納棚で、これこそがString®の始まりとなりました。
このデザインをきっかけに、ニルス・ストリニングは現代のスカンジナビアンデザイン（北欧デザイン）の礎を気づいた『創始者』として、今なお世界的にも高く評価されています。

それから数年で、ニルスとカイサはString® systemをさらに洗練させ、
美しさだけでなく機能性にも優れたシェルフを確立しました。
さらには、棚やキャビネット、折り畳み式テーブルなどを追加して、
時代を超えて無限に拡張・改良できる収納システムを生み出したのです。
